 ABOUT US

Looking Up towards Life

Shodh – Sustainable Development Initiatives” is an Indian national level non-government organisation (NGO) established in the year 2002 and registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, having its registered office in Delhi. Shodh was conceptualised as a joint initiative of young dedicated professionals from varied backgrounds, in order to address multi-dimensional problems emerging due to break-neck pace of urbanization. In order to responsibly address the underlying issues, Shodh advocates equally the causes of both urban and rural poor, especially those of women and children who are often the worst sufferers.

Shodh Envisions …

an egalitarian, socially responsible society wherein the underprivileged sections of the society are enabled to realize their full potential and live with respect and dignity.

The Mission...

Shodh strives to achieve people-oriented sustainable development that is sensitive to the needs and rights of the socially and economically marginalised masses, fosters people's empowerment and builds self-reliant communities.

         OUR CONCERN

Shodh strives to realize its vision through research, action, advocacy, training and publication, encompassing all spheres of development planning. The areas of concern comprise a broad spectrum of issues related to urban and rural poor, with prime focus on urban and rural poverty, slums, squatters, shelterless, education, employment & livelihood, labour market, shelter, resettlement & rehabilitation, disaster preparedness/mitigation. Other focus areas include governance, waste management, ecology & environment, road safety, health, disability, etc.

The specific target groups constitute the marginalised sections of the society including slum and pavement dwellers, shelterless, unorganised labour force such as rickshaw-pullers, hawkers & vendors, construction workers and other daily wage earners, displaced/rehabilitated population and rural poor, especially the landless.
