Greeting Cards-making Competition

The children are encouraged to take part in creative activities such as drawing, music, and also sports. Regular drawing classes and tests for the same are held. Under this, a card making competition was organized towards the end of December, 2004, in which the children participated enthusiastically. Around 50 New Year Greeting Cards were prepared by the children, which were sent to various organizations, advisors and members affiliated to Shodh. Noida Authority also sent a thank you reply to one of the girls of the centre who had prepared the card. Three best cards were selected and the children were awarded prizes on the occasion of Republic Day celebration.

Republic Day Celebration

The children of the centers celebrated the Republic Day this year with great enthusiasm. Flag was hoisted in the cluster infront of a large gathering. The children prepared and presented an hours programme in which they sang several patriotic songs. Following this, biscuits, toffees and bananas were distributed to the children. The significance of Republic Day was also discussed with the children.

Teachers’ Day Excursion

It was decided to give a special treat to the children on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. The children were overjoyed to hear that they would be able to go out on an excursion along with their friends without having to ask their parents to contribute money for the same as majority of them could not afford such costs. The venues for the excursion were chalked out in such a way that it was of both educational as well as recreational value for the children

The excursion was to include Rail Museum, Delhi Zoo, Science Museum, and Indraprastha Millenium Park. However, Rail Museum was close that day and the children could visit only the rest of the three places. A big bus was arranged for the purpose. With the budget available and non-availability of buses through any schools, it was planned as a trip for just 55 children.

However, on the day of the excursion an overwhelming number of children gathered (even those who were not part of our NFE centres) and their parents started requesting to take them too. But it was not possible to accommodate so many children.  A total of 68 children finally went on the excursion. The children all came neat and tidy in the best of their dresses and it was a treat to see their joy and enthusiasm. After returning back an experience sharing exercise was also done.
